There are four types of Outward Collections handled by the ELCY system:
- Direct presentation to the buyer's bank - the corporate creates the collection in the system. The bank adds its reference, allowing the corporate to produce a bank schedule/covering letter with the bank’s logo. The corporate can send this letter together with the documents to the collecting/presenting bank.
- Presentation to corporate bank - the corporate creates the collection in the system, then produces a schedule/covering letter addressed to their bank (i.e., Remitting Bank) and sends this, together with the documents, to their bank. Upon receipt of the documents, the corporate’s bank allocates a reference, creates its own schedule and sends the documents and schedule to the collecting/presenting bank.
- Direct presentation of documents to the buyer's bank without any involvement from corporate bank – where the corporate is responsible for communicating directly with the buyer’s bank.
- Direct presentation of documents to buyer – where the corporate deals directly with the buyer without the involvement of any banks.
Where the remitting bank is an ELCY system user, they may take responsibility for updating the status of the collection after the dispatch of the documents. Otherwise, the corporate can update all statuses to ensure a complete record of all collections can be maintained, whether or not the bank uses ELCY.
